Sugi House
The Sugi House is an exquisite vacation cottage built in the 1930s on more than 1/2 acre of beautifully landscaped grounds--- the perfect place to experience the forest ambiance of lovely Volcano Village. Park in the covered carport, stroll the worn pathway winding through azaleas, hydrangeas, and ferns, and then ascend the painted wooden stairs to the covered entryway. Upon entering this home, note the light from the many picture windows, the superior restoration of the home, and the lovely antique furnishings and original artwork throughout. The living room is a cozy space of Hawaiiana furnishings arranged in a conversational grouping. And the huge dining room features a large picture window with a window seat with reading lamp, the original, decorative lava rock fireplace, and a new gas fireplace that provides the warmth needed for the occasional chilly nights.
The kitchen is fully -appointed, providing all needed for the preparation of gourmet meals. And the bathroom is distinguished by its antique 6 ft. claw tub with shower, and the hand painted sink basin and oversized countertop.
The master bedroom features a king bed, separate sitting area, and a sparkling picture window through which to view the lush beauty of the surrounding forest. In addition there is a second bedroom with a full-size bed, as well as a full-size fold out futon for additional sleeping space when needed.
Stroll the grounds amidst the tall ohia trees and the many Sugi pines (Japanese cedar) for which this property is so aptly named. An exceptional outdoor feature is the 'potting shed', converted to a lovely space for morning and afternoon coffee/tea, and for barbequing and dining.
The Sugi House is available for $165/night for 2 occupants, with an additional $20/night for each person above 2 to a maximum of 6. In addition there are two taxes totaling 11.416%.
